The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is the apex body in India for disaster management. Established under the Disaster Management Act, of 2005, NDMA is responsible for laying down policies, plans, and guidelines for disaster management to ensure timely and effective response to disasters.

Position Overview

NDMA is seeking dynamic and experienced professionals to fill Manager positions across various locations in India. As an NDMA Manager, you will play a crucial role in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts. This is an opportunity to contribute to the nation’s resilience and safeguard communities from the impacts of disasters.

Main Responsibilities

  • Planning and Preparedness: Develop and implement disaster preparedness plans, including risk assessments, evacuation procedures, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with government agencies, NGOs, community groups, and other stakeholders to ensure a unified and effective response to disasters.
  • Response Management: Lead emergency response efforts during disasters, including managing relief operations, coordinating rescue teams, and providing support to affected populations.
  • Capacity Building: Conduct training programs and workshops to build the capacity of local authorities and communities in disaster management techniques and protocols.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of disaster events, response activities, and resource utilization for reporting and evaluation purposes.
  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development of national policies and guidelines related to disaster management based on insights gained from field experiences and best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in disaster management, emergency management, public administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in disaster management, emergency response, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of national and international disaster management frameworks, policies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office suite and GIS software, preferred.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work irregular hours during emergencies.
  • Fluency in English and one or more regional languages is desirable.
