The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is seeking qualified candidates. Main Responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on a wide range of international relations, security, and strategic issues, with a focus on specify areas of focus, e.g., South Asian security, regional cooperation, geopolitical trends, etc.
  • Report Writing: Prepare high-quality reports, policy briefs, and analytical papers based on research findings, offering insights and recommendations to policymakers, scholars, and the public.
  • Public Engagement: Represent ISSI at conferences, seminars, and workshops, presenting research findings and engaging with stakeholders from government, academia, civil society, and the media.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within ISSI and with external partners, fostering teamwork and interdisciplinary approaches to research and policy analysis.
  • Publication: Contribute articles and op-eds to academic journals, newspapers, and online platforms to disseminate ISSI’s research findings and perspectives on key issues.
  • Networking: Build and maintain networks with experts, policymakers, and institutions both domestically and internationally to enhance ISSI’s visibility and influence in the field.
  • Project Management: Manage research projects effectively, including planning, budgeting, implementation, and monitoring of timelines and deliverables.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: A Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Strategic Studies, or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in research, analysis, and policy engagement in the field of international relations, security studies, or strategic studies. Experience working in a think tank, academic institution, government agency, or international organization is desirable.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in specify relevant areas, e.g., regional security dynamics, conflict resolution, arms control, etc.. Strong analytical skills and the ability to think critically and creatively about complex issues.
  • Writing Skills: Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-organized reports and publications. Proficiency in English is required; proficiency in Urdu or other languages is an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate research findings and policy recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Networking: Proven ability to build and maintain professional networks with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, scholars, and practitioners.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with research tools and databases. Experience with statistical analysis software and data visualization tools is an advantage.
