Due to inclement weather and persistent rain, Pakistan’s first Twenty20 International match against England has been canceled.

Sadly, it seems that Yorkshire weather has other ideas.

A critical series leading up to the ICC T20I World Cup in 2024, the sides from Pakistan and England were scheduled to square off in the opening Twenty20 International at Leeds’ Headingley Cricket Ground.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States and the Caribbean will take place in the aftermath of the series. The first match will pit Pakistan against the hosts in Dallas on June 6.

Last month, the 56-year-old South African was officially announced as the white-ball head coach and Jason Gillespie as the red-ball head coach. The Australian will begin his tour in Pakistan in July in preparation for the August matches of the ICC World Test Championship against Bangladesh.

Kirsten will be the head coach for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, and the ACC T20 Asia Cup 2025, in addition to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and other bilateral white-ball series.

The cricket rivalry between England and Pakistan has been extremely intense in recent times, with England winning their last five games by a narrow margin.

England won the match on November 13, 2022, winning by 5 wickets and finishing with an over remaining. They defeated Pakistan for the third time in a row with this victory, demonstrating their tactical skill and steady play.

On October 2, 2022, England demonstrated their supremacy in both bowling and batting with a decisive 67-run win.

They concluded the match with 33 balls left on September 30, 2022, winning by 8 wickets, demonstrating their effectiveness and well-thought-out strategy.

There was some balance to the series. Pakistan won two closely contested games to show off their competitive attitude.

Pakistan won by a small margin on September 28, 2022, demonstrating their capacity to hold a low total under duress. They prevailed in another close game, won by just three runs, on September 25, 2022, a few days earlier.

These triumphs demonstrate Pakistan’s tenacity and ability to take on a formidable squad like England.

Overall, Pakistan’s victories show that they are still a strong opponent capable of turning the tables in closely contested matches, even though England has dominated the recent head-to-head meetings.
