The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a cautionary advisory to consumers regarding the purchase of mobile phones. The PTA urges the public to be vigilant when buying devices from the market, especially to avoid cloned or counterfeit phones.
In a recent statement shared widely on social media, the PTA emphasized several key points to ensure consumers make safe and informed purchases. First, customers should always buy phones from reputable and established retailers. Additionally, they should verify that their purchase includes an active warranty.
The PTA further recommends that consumers opt for boxed phones. It is crucial to check that the phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number matches the one listed on the box and to confirm the presence of a PTA stamp on the packaging.
To validate their devices, customers are encouraged to use the Device Verification System (DVS) app, send an SMS with their IMEI number to 8484, or visit the PTA’s official website at [https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk](https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk).
The PTA also cautioned against investing in high-priced devices that are being sold at unusually low prices or those sold without a warranty. Such offers may indicate fraudulent schemes.
In the event of encountering issues or suspected fraud, the PTA advises consumers to ensure that their mobile devices are properly packaged, contact the seller directly, and report any suspicious activities to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
