Pakistan secured a convincing 79-run victory over England in the 10th match of the 2024 World Championship of Legends at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, UK.
Remaining unbeaten, Pakistan clinched their fourth win in the tournament, having previously defeated Australia, West Indies, and India.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 196/4. Despite early setbacks with Kamran Akmal (11) and Sharjeel Khan (13) departing early, a crucial 121-run partnership between Sohaib Maqsood and Shoaib Malik laid a solid foundation. Maqsood scored 44 off 33 balls, while Malik contributed 33 off 14 balls. Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq chipped in with 14 off 9 balls, and Abdul Razzaq added 9 off 6 balls.
England’s Meaker was their most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 2/25. In reply, England faltered in their chase, losing early wickets including that of captain Kevin Pietersen. Phil Mustard fought valiantly with 34 runs, but wickets fell at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for 117 runs.
Pakistan’s bowling attack was led by Saeed Ajmal with three wickets, supported by Abdul Razzaq with two wickets. Shoaib Malik, Sohail Khan, and Aamer Yamin each chipped in with a wicket.
With this win, Pakistan sits comfortably atop the points table with 8 points, followed by Australia and India with 4 points each in second and third place respectively. England is fourth with 2 points.
