Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as Deputy Director (Law) at our headquarters in Islamabad. The Deputy Director (Law) will play a crucial role in providing legal expertise and guidance on matters related to electoral laws, regulations, and procedures.

Main Responsibilities

  • Legal Analysis: Conduct thorough legal analysis of electoral laws, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance and provide guidance to the Commission.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and formulation of electoral policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Legal Advice: Provide legal advice and opinions to the Commission on a wide range of electoral issues, including disputes, complaints, and challenges.
  • Drafting: Prepare legal documents, including opinions, memoranda, and correspondence, related to electoral matters.
  • Litigation Support: Assist in representing the Commission in legal proceedings, including before courts and tribunals, related to electoral disputes and challenges.
  • Training: Conduct training sessions and workshops for ECP staff and stakeholders on electoral laws, procedures, and best practices.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized institution. A Master’s degree in Law or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the legal field, with a focus on electoral law, administrative law, or constitutional law. Experience working with election management bodies or similar organizations is highly desirable.
  • Legal Knowledge: Thorough understanding of electoral laws, rules, and regulations in Pakistan. Familiarity with international standards and best practices in electoral law is an asset.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply legal principles to complex electoral issues.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu. Ability to draft legal documents and provide clear and concise legal advice.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • Integrity: High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to upholding ethical standards in all aspects of work.
