Amid the ongoing probe into the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, another Indian citizen has been apprehended in Canada. Al Jazeera reports that Amandeep Singh faces charges of first-degree murder in connection to Nijjar’s demise.

This arrest follows previous detentions made by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on May 3, involving three Indian nationals—Kamalpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, and Kiran Brar—in Alberta. They had maintained temporary residency in Canada for the past five years.

RCMP Superintendent Mandeep Mokar emphasized that the investigation remains active. “This inquiry is far from over, as we believe there are additional accomplices involved in this tragic incident. Our foremost objective is to bring them to justice,” stated Mokar.

Superintendent Mokar also hinted at a potential connection between the arrested individuals and the Indian government led by Modi. “All leads concerning Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s assassination point towards the Modi administration,” he remarked. Canadian authorities and the Five Eyes Intelligence Agency have echoed similar sentiments, implicating the Indian government in the assassination.

This occurrence aligns with a distressing trend of violence targeting Sikh leaders abroad. Just three days after Nijjar’s assassination, an assassination attempt was made on Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in the United States, albeit unsuccessful. Furthermore, on November 9, 2023, Harpreet Singh Uppal and his 11-year-old son were tragically killed in Vancouver, Canada.

The apprehended suspects in Canada hail from Punjab and Haryana. According to a US investigation, the Modi government allegedly engaged Indian criminal and drug dealer Nikhil Gupta in the assassination attempt on Pannu’s life.

Despite mounting evidence, the Modi government persistently denies involvement in these incidents. The international community awaits further developments as the investigation progresses.
