The Strengthening & Modernizing National Archives of Pakistan Project 2024 is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing the preservation, accessibility, and digitization of Pakistan’s historical records. We are seeking talented individuals who are passionate about preserving Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and contributing to the modernization of archival practices in the country.

Position: Archival Specialist

Main Responsibilities

  • Conducting assessments of archival collections to identify preservation needs and prioritize digitization efforts.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for the organization, preservation, and cataloging of archival materials.
  • Providing expertise in archival best practices, including handling, storage, and conservation techniques.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to facilitate access to archival resources through digitization projects and online platforms.
  • Training and mentoring archival staff on modern archival techniques and technologies.
  • Contributing to the development of policies and procedures related to the management and access of archival collections.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, History, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with archival collections, including knowledge of archival principles and standards.
  • Familiarity with digitization processes and technologies for archival materials.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and database management systems.
  • Knowledge of Pakistani history and culture is desirable.

Position: Digital Archivist

Main Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the digitization of archival materials, including planning and coordinating digitization projects.
  • Ensuring the quality and integrity of digitized materials through quality control measures.
  • Managing digital assets and metadata according to established standards and protocols.
  • Providing technical support for digital preservation initiatives, including the implementation of digital repository systems.
  • Collaborating with IT professionals to develop and maintain digital infrastructure for archival collections.
  • Conducting training sessions for staff and users on digital archival tools and platforms.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working with digital archival materials and familiarity with digitization standards and best practices.
  • Proficiency in digital imaging techniques and software, such as Adobe Photoshop or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of metadata standards and digital asset management systems.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with archival description standards, such as DACS or EAD, is desirable.
