About the Project
Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project (T5HPP) is a landmark initiative by WAPDA aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s energy capacity through renewable means. Situated in the picturesque locale of Tarbela, this project symbolizes Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable energy and environmental stewardship.
Position Overview
WAPDA’s Environmental & Social Management Unit at T5HPP is seeking an experienced Environmental & Social Specialist to join its dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with environmental and social regulations, fostering sustainable practices, and promoting community engagement.
Main Responsibilities
- Environmental Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards set forth by local and international bodies.
- Social Impact Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments to understand the social implications of project activities on local communities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders including local communities, NGOs, government agencies, and other relevant parties to foster positive relationships and address concerns.
- Environmental Management Plan (EMP): Develop, implement, and monitor the Environmental Management Plan to mitigate environmental risks and promote sustainability.
- Social Safeguards: Develop and implement strategies to safeguard the social well-being of affected communities, including livelihood restoration and community development initiatives.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor project activities, assess their environmental and social impacts, and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Capacity Building: Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the capacity of project staff and local communities in environmental and social management practices.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental and social management, preferably in the hydropower or infrastructure sector.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and social safeguards, particularly in the context of large-scale development projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing Environmental Management Plans and Social Impact Assessments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications for data analysis and reporting.
