The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has now joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in challenging the recent Supreme Court decision allocating reserved seats to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). On behalf of the PPP, Farooq H. Naik submitted a review petition arguing that the allocation of seats to PTI was unjust and requesting the court to overturn its ruling from July 12.

According to the PPP’s petition, the PTI received these seats without formally requesting them, which they claim is unfair. They argue that the Supreme Court’s decision on July 12 did not adhere to proper constitutional principles and failed to address key arguments presented by the PPP. As a result, the PPP has urged the court to suspend the implementation of the decision until a final ruling is reached.

Similarly, the PML-N has also filed a revision petition on the same issue, seeking to annul the specific seat allocations. Both parties contend that the Supreme Court’s decision deviates from established constitutional interpretations and needs reconsideration.

The legal argument put forth by the PPP stresses that the Supreme Court’s decision inadequately addressed fundamental issues regarding seat allocations. They emphasize the necessity of suspending the decision to ensure a fair adjudication process based on constitutional principles.

These legal maneuvers highlight the complexities and tensions within Pakistan’s political landscape, as major parties engage in legal challenges over the allocation of parliamentary seats. The petitions reflect broader disagreements and rivalries between significant political factions in the country.

On July 15, the PML-N also filed a review petition urging the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision regarding the allocation of reserved seats to the PTI. Like the PPP, the PML-N requested a stay order on the July 12 decision until a final resolution is achieved.

In summary, both the PPP and PML-N are contesting the Supreme Court’s decision, arguing that the PTI’s allocation of seats was unjustified and demanding a fair review based on constitutional principles. These petitions underscore ongoing legal and political tensions surrounding parliamentary seat allocations in Pakistan.
