Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Thursday that the nation would not forgive those responsible for the acts of vandalism that occurred on May 9.

During a special meeting of the federal cabinet, the prime minister reflected on the violent events of that day. “Although a year has passed, the public has not forgotten who caused the riots on May 9,” he remarked.

He described May 9 as not only a dark day in the country’s history but also a day that highlighted differing mindsets within the nation. According to Sharif, “On one side, there are the courageous servicemen, their families, and the patriotic citizens, while on the other, there are individuals whose actions show disregard for national interests.”

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Privatisation Aleem Khan paid tribute to the country’s martyrs on the first anniversary of the May 9 unrest. “I hold deep respect for the Pakistan Army, and it’s because of our strong military that the nation stands firm,” he said. As president of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Aleem Khan expressed his admiration for the sacrifices made by the country’s martyrs.
