The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is the apex body of the Government of [Country] responsible for disaster management in the country. Job Description
NDMA is seeking qualified candidates for Assistant and Deputy Manager positions to support its mission of disaster preparedness, mitigation, and response. Successful candidates will work closely with NDMA’s leadership team and stakeholders to ensure effective disaster management strategies are implemented nationwide.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in Policy Formulation: Contribute to the development of disaster management policies, plans, and guidelines in alignment with national and international best practices.
- Capacity Building: Facilitate training programs and workshops for government officials, first responders, and community members to enhance their capacity in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with relevant government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners to ensure effective coordination and communication during disaster events.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate the impact of various natural and man-made disasters, including floods, earthquakes, cyclones, pandemics, and industrial accidents.
- Emergency Response Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, resource mobilization, and coordination of relief efforts.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the implementation of disaster management initiatives, evaluate their effectiveness, and recommend improvements based on lessons learned and best practices.
- Public Awareness and Education: Promote public awareness and education campaigns on disaster preparedness, resilience, and safety measures through various media channels and community engagement activities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Management, Emergency Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred for Deputy Manager positions.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in disaster management, emergency response, or related fields. Experience working with government agencies or international organizations is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of disaster risk reduction principles, emergency response protocols, and disaster management frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and work in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office suite and GIS software. Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools is desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environments.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work during weekends or holidays in response to emergency situations.
