The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our esteemed team as a Research Associate. As a leading think tank in Pakistan, ISSI is committed to fostering critical analysis and informed discourse on strategic issues of regional and global significance.

Main Responsibilities

• Conducting Research: Engage in independent and collaborative research projects focusing on geopolitical, security, and strategic studies.
• Analysis and Reporting: Analyze complex data, trends, and developments in international relations, security affairs, and strategic studies, producing insightful reports and policy briefs.
• Policy Development: Contribute to the formulation of policy recommendations and strategies based on rigorous research and analysis.
• Publication: Prepare research papers, articles, and op-eds for publication in reputable journals, newspapers, and online platforms.
• Event Participation: Participate in seminars, conferences, and workshops, presenting research findings and engaging in constructive dialogue with stakeholders.
• Networking: Build and maintain effective relationships with government officials, academics, diplomats, and representatives from international organizations and think tanks.
• Administrative Support: Provide assistance in organizing events, managing databases, and other administrative tasks as required.

Job Requirements

• Educational Qualifications: A Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Strategic Studies, Security Studies, or a related field. A Ph.D. would be an advantage.
• Research Skills: Proven ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research, with a strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Writing Proficiency: Excellent writing skills with the capability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured reports, articles, and policy briefs.
• Knowledge Base: Sound understanding of global geopolitical dynamics, security challenges, and strategic issues, particularly related to South Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
• Communication Skills: Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas succinctly and engage with diverse audiences.
• Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, while also demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.
• Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with statistical analysis software and research databases.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is essential, with proficiency in additional languages such as Urdu, Arabic, or Chinese considered advantageous.
• Experience: Prior experience in research, policy analysis, or related fields, preferably in a think tank, academic institution, or governmental organization, would be beneficial.
