The Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is a premier think tank in Pakistan, dedicated to conducting in-depth research and analysis on strategic and security issues facing the region. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our dynamic team as a Research Associate.
Main Responsibilities
- Conducting Research: Undertake research projects on various strategic and security issues relevant to the region, including but not limited to geopolitics, international relations, defense, and socio-economic trends.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather data from diverse sources, analyze it thoroughly, and draw meaningful conclusions to contribute to policy discussions and academic discourse.
- Report Writing: Prepare comprehensive research reports, policy briefs, and analytical papers to communicate findings effectively to policymakers, scholars, and the general public.
- Participation in Seminars and Workshops: Engage in seminars, conferences, and workshops organized by ISSI, contributing insights and expertise to discussions on strategic matters.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow researchers, academics, and policymakers both within ISSI and externally to foster a vibrant intellectual environment and facilitate knowledge exchange.
- Publication: Contribute articles, op-eds, and commentaries to reputable journals, newspapers, and online platforms to disseminate research findings and enhance ISSI’s visibility.
- Support to Senior Researchers: Assist senior researchers in their projects, providing literature reviews, data analysis, and other research-related support as required.
Job Requirements
- Education: A Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, or a related field. A Ph.D. or ongoing Ph.D. studies would be an advantage.
- Research Experience: Proven experience in conducting independent research, preferably on strategic or security issues. Familiarity with research methodologies and data analysis techniques is essential.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to critically evaluate information, identify trends, and draw sound conclusions.
- Writing Proficiency: Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured reports and analyses.
- Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Fluency in Urdu and proficiency in other regional languages would be beneficial.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
- Commitment to Excellence: Demonstrated commitment to quality, accuracy, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
- Knowledge of South Asian Affairs: Familiarity with the political, security, and socio-economic dynamics of South Asia would be an asset.
