The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has released extensive guidelines to lessen the effects of the harsh weather in advance of a severe heatwave that is predicted to strike the province between May 21 and May 27.

Director General Irfan Kathia of the PDMA emphasized the heightened possibility of intense heat waves during this time, especially in Punjab’s plains, where areas in the southern region are anticipated to be severely impacted. Various departments have been requested by the PDMA to take proactive steps to guarantee the safety and well-being of the people.

To guarantee that there is complete medical support, the PDMA has responded by ordering the Punjab Health Department to revoke all medical and paramedical staff leaves. Hospitals have been told to install special heatwave counters to treat patients with heat-related illnesses as soon as possible.

Deputy commissioners have been instructed to make sure that facilities for preventing heatwaves are available in public areas. A public awareness campaign has also been launched to inform people about heatwave safety measures. Helpline numbers and announcements made in mosques will be used in this effort.

In these efforts, farmers have been singled out, with the PDMA stressing the importance of educating them about the heatwave’s possible consequences on crops. Veterinary clinics are to run around the clock and make sure that animal markets have clean water available.

These actions are a part of PDMA Punjab’s larger plan to lessen the negative effects of the heatwave and protect locals’ livelihoods and health in the impacted areas.
